Nexus One - A consumer review on the new Google phone

"Google has always been a news maker in ICT industry. With stepping into the mobile market; no doubt they injected some fears in the major mobile phone manufacturers. Anyway with the introduction of this new version of their phone called the Nexus One; coupled with error-fixes and numerous improvements, this phone is really challenging the iPhone. This is the review on Nexus One"

For some reason some time ago Google decided to enter and challenge the mobile phone market. They made the new from starting their first mobile phone. Apple’s unit does not support multitasking abilities and it feels like that this was one of the things that the users were attracted towards the Google phone. And also the availability of application in comparison with other phones including the iPhone it self.

Anyhow the latest member of the Google phone family is called the Nexus One. One of the main differences which can be observed by the naked eye is the reduction of the width of the Nexus One or the thickness so to speak. The new Nexus one is about 11.5 mm in depth (bit thinner than the iphone 3GS!). The weight is about 130 grams (100g without the batter) which is also lighter than its rival the iPhone 3GS.

The screen is bout 3.7 inches coupled with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels (WVGA). The response time of the display is 1ms. iPhone really can’t beat this with its 480 x 320. With 16 Millions of colors the screen is just a pleasure to watch. And also the new 5 Mega Pixel camera is also a key feature with 2x digital zooming abilities and 720x480 pixels at 20 frames per second or higher video capturing also.

The Nexus Ones' processor runs at 1 GHz (512MB RAM, 32GB-capable microSD slot) and this is one of the reasons why the Nexus One is performing when it comes to multitasking, smooth video playback, 3D rendering and also impressive response times too. The total performance is easily noticeable for the previous Google phone user. WiFi and 3G (HSDPA), bluetooth are among its network embedded solutions

The processor it self (named Snapdragon) has some other useful power-saving features such as closing down portions or slowing down while not busy. However the main downside in my experience was the battery. Although Google says the Nexus One is capable of 7 hours of talk time and 5 hours of Internet usage with 3G on etc. In my experience (must confess, I was really busy with it the first time!). And as with the case of all phones over 70% of my battery usage was being consumed by the “gorgeous” display.

Nexus One cost you around $180 (unlock version for purchasing from T-Mobile). And if you purchase through Google it’ll cost you around $529. For more information on why the huge cost difference please visit the links at the bottom of this article. Anyway personally after considering the cost, performance look n feel and many other improvements I think this google’s Nexus One is one of the best multipurpose mobile phones out there – Hey Apple watch-out Google’s coming!
