iPhone 4 - A consumer Review

"Apple again with the introduction of their newest iPhone mobile phone family called the iPhone 4 has already started to dominate again. However HTC and Google have also joint hands to take the battle to iPhone with the introduction of Motorola Driod X. Anyway with almost everything twice as better will they be able to beat the new iPhone4? and should you go out and buy it? This is the review of iPhone 4"


As I pointed out earlier everything is doubled with the iPhone 4. The processor, RAM,  Display resolution etc you name it! Anyway lets have a look at the hardware specifications at first.

The dimensions of the iPhone4 are as follows. 4.5 inches in height, 2.3 inches width and 0.37 inch in depth and it weights around 4.8 ounces. The phones comes with two color choices Black and White.


 The 3.5 Retina display on the iPhone supports a staggering 960x640 pixel resolution and according to Apple (its true) this is the highest resolution ratio used in a mobile phone Ever!. The pictures looks stunning and thanks to the resolution jump you can zoom more (web pages for example, they never seem to fit on mobile phone) without loosing much quality loss. The contrast ratio is 800:1 on the touchscreen.

The camera of the new iPhone 4 also includes big improvements. It's a 5-mega pixel camera which is capable of capturing videos of 720p (HD) in its maximum. The video also includes 30 frames per seconds (same as the iPhone 3GS). If you need to switch between video or the still image mood all you have to do is just tap it! It also has a built in LED flash light also. Photo tagging (location recognition) and video geotagging is also embedded to the camera.




The processor also named "Apple A4" which is twice as fast as the predecessor, thanks to it from response time to video playback capacity to HD contents (720p) are available. iPhone 4 also includes 2 microphone and the overall audio quality was excellent.

Even though the phone again with the help of the powerful processor can easily support variety of high quality video playbacks, but again Apple only restricts video formats to 720p resolution (H.264, MPEG-4,.m4v, mp4 and mov) so iPhone only supports Apple formats. MPEG - 4 video up to 2.5Mpbs (640 x 480).

Audio support includes  AAC (8 - 320 Kbps), AAC (protected format), HE-AAC, MP3 (max 320 Kbps) AAX, AIFF and Apple Lossless oh and also WAV. So again Apple iPhone only support Apple formats , what a waste!

The batter is also powerful than the iPhone 3GS version. Talk time up to 7 hours (3G) and while on 2G 14 hours. Wi-Fi 10 hours internet using and in 3G web browsing 6 hours.

The memory comes in two choices. The default 16GB version and the 32GB version (cost more). So all in all is iPhone 4 better than the iPhone 3GS?  

It performs well and its fast, you can actually feel the speed thanks to the powerful processor again, and included iOS4 multitasking is also available (thank god for that). The camera and audio quality is also good. The display is fantastic with such standards in resolutions. The battery also forget what the Apple say in our tests it lasted more than 5 hours (under heavy usage).

So all in all iPhone 4 certainly better than iPhone 3GS and the price is again reasonable so well done Apple. But if you love multimedia and want to play formats other than Apples wants you to, well wait until some apps join the club! (follow the below link to get more information).
