Palm Pre Plus - A consumer review

"Palm Pre Plus mobile phone is the answer for the iPhone "trend" from another USA based smart phone giant Palm. In a nutshell the phone it self is somewhere between the iPhone 3GS and the Nexus One. It's smaller lighter has a great look n feel, powered by the open source Web-OS and hey it has a physical slide-out QWERTY keyboard too!"

With the Palm Pre Plus smart phone there are no multiple color choices. Its black and that's it. The display is about 3.1 inches in dimensions and slightly below the iPhone 3GSs' 3.5 screen. But Palm Pre Plus includes 24-bit or 24 million colors!. When you embed 24 million color quality to a 3.1 it should look stunning and yes it certainly looks stunning. This beats the iPhone 3GS 16 million color quality too. The display of this mobile phone runs at 320 x 480 resolution (HVGA display).

The keyboard is as pointed out earlier QWERTY type one and a slide out design. The keyboard is nice but the phone it self is a bit small (2.3 inches in width, 3.9 inches of height and 0.67 inches in thickness) so as the keyboard. Its not that easy to type as Palm claims. Anyway there is also an on-display keyboard also.

The camera on the Palm is a 3-megapixels, LED flash, zooming and video capturing ability but there is no auto-focus function. Sensors includes Ambient light, accelerometer, and proximity. Palm Pre supports variaty of mail browsing functions such as Yahoo, Gmail, AOL, Hotmail and just a few to name.

The mobile phone includes of 16GB of total memory capacity. But only 15GB is available and the remaining 1GB is being used by the phone (Web-OS etc). And the added multitasking in Palm Pre Plus with the help of the robust Web-OS is another key selling points in comparison with arrogant Apple iPhone 3GS.You can also use the Palm Pre as a USB storage device but this is not a special feature as this is a standard features for today phones. So no winning points there.

The broad range of  multimedia capabilities in handling audio formats such as MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, AMR, QCELP, WAV and video playback support of the Palm Pre include MPEG-4, H.263, H.264. Still incomparison with the Nexus One might be a little behind anyway.

The battery of the mobile phones is good. Palm claims it supports up to 5.5 talking hours and 300 hours of standby time. And also a 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack. You can charge the Palm Pre with a microUSB connector.

This little giant includes one of the most richest network features in a smat phone. Networks includes WiFi (WPA, WPA2), Bluetooth, GPS.UMTS/HSDPA etc. And Palm Pre Plus can connect up to 5 through WiFi. So when it comes to networks Plus is better than the predecessor Palm Pre.

Anyway apart from the "physical" keyboard (which is not bad but a bit small) messaning e-mailning web browsing etc makes the Palm Pre Plus a small but a unique smart phone.
